CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO: KINGSLEY

By the time Scar shuts the panic room door, he is entering the code to re-open it.

“Well, that was quick.” Evie says as we return to the common room. “What happened?”

Dante’s call for Church gives Scar his opportunity to bail without spilling club business.

“I forgot how crazy it gets around here.” Angela says as she takes her seat. Her brother Hector enters the room, but rather than join us, he moves to the bar.

“Did you hang around the clubhouse often?” Tally asks Angela.

“I did. I found it exciting and so freeing. Prior to meeting Dale, my life was country clubs and galas, small talk and social niceties. Very boring stuff. Dale opened me up to a whole new world where I could relax and just have fun. I could laugh out loud, drink beer, and wear comfortable clothes without worrying about what the gossips would say.”

“You attended parties? What was your reaction to the kutte bunnies?” Tally asks. “How did you get along with them?”

“They shocked me, at first. Watching them having sex out in the open and with multiple partners was appalling because it was so alien to me. Slowly, I grew to revel in the lifestyle's freedom. Seeing others having sex became a turn on for me. But the most liberating experience came when Dale and I would find dark corners to have sex.” Angela gives a little shudder and a smirk that has me grinning and Tally gaping at her future mother-in-law.

“Did you have any problems with them?” Caitlin asks. “Dale was President, so I imagine they all wanted to be with him.” I glance at Caitlin, wondering if she’s asking because of Scar. Even before Caitlin’s arrival, Scar never used the bunnies and now that he’s found her, he doesn’t look at any other women. But that doesn’t mean the bunnies aren’t causing her trouble. I open my mouth to ask, but Angela beats me to it.

Angela nods. “They did, but they couldn’t compete with me and they knew it. Are they giving you trouble?”

Caitlin shrugs. “I know Scar won’t cheat, but sometimes they make me feel like I’m not enough for him.”

Angela laughs, the sound full and throaty as she casts a look at the bunnies hanging out by the guys playing pool. “I’ll let you in on a little secret about how to handle the bunnies. Never, ever believe a single word that comes out of their filthy mouths. I’m not saying that you can’t trust any of them, but you can’t. At least not until they earn it. Most of them are desperate to be Old Ladies, and every time a member finds an Old Lady, they go into a panic. Remember, for most Old Ladies, like you girls, you have lives outside the clubhouse. They don’t. They focus all their energy on one thing, finding a permanent place here.”

“Who’s causing you trouble?” I ask, but I’m fairly certain I know the answer. We have two new girls who recently became bunnies after attending a few parties.
